How to delay 12v for starting an engine by remote?

How about disconnecting the cable at the starter solenoid that goes to the starter motor? That way the solenoid will still engage if that signal is needed by the ECU, but the starter won't engage. When the testing is over with, reconnect it and go on about your business.
