My car is a 1999 citroen xsara,after removing the ecu to take the gearbox out,now I have put the car back?

I have now put the car back together,and it wont start,I get the key sybol flashing and a continous beebing sound telling me the ecu doen't recognize the key,is this common,if so how do I fix it???please help. Dave..
